Its been found that children who have books at home read more and even score better in schools. Reading opens the windows of the mind. It helps them comprehend from the written word and go on to create by themselves.

Most of our information is written, even more so today, with the fast growing content generation on the Internet. Everything right from current affairs, to academic material, credit records and even tax receipts is written. To get from one place to another, youll need to read a map to understand it. Today, reading is more important than ever.

Research tells us that if you read books at home and are used to handling them, its easier to find your way through a library book. True, the library is a great source for any number of books. But you need to have handled books enough to be comfortable in one.

To help your child excel, spend a lot of time reading with him at home. Dont leave the responsibility for reading to his school exclusively. Keep your eyes open for discounts, bulk buying rates and second hand books. Join a library that allows you to take books home. This means you and your child can expand your reading horizons.

Children like being read to. If you find that there is a particular type of book or author they like, buy more of those. If you read out to your child, he will respond better to what is being read out at school and eventually comprehend things faster. You could even use books that come with a cassette or CD to make the entire process much more entertaining.

As adults, it is great to sit back in a comfortable chair and curl up to read. Reading current events, magazines, journals and even stories is so much easier at home. Access them from the Internet or libraries, then read at your own leisure. Enjoy the moment, for reading really is one of the best pastimes!
